Low Life Interview

Sovereign Savant:So tell us about your band and where you originate from?

Low Life:We are a 4-piece Metal band from Salt Lake City, UT. We met each other playing in different bands in the SLC scene over the years, and formed Low Life in early 2017. We released our debut EP “Nerves” in the fall of 2018. Since then we have released a series of singles in an effort to further evolve our sound. Our latest single “Loser” was released in September of this year, and is our fastest growing single to date!

Sovereign:So what inspired the formation of the group?

Low Life:After several years playing in our previous bands, both groups began to dissipate. Being that we were such good friends, the natural step was to form one group, and start writing music that was exciting, and felt fresh to us.

Sovereign:So what's the highlight for your band so far and how has crossing paths from different bands inspired your creative sound?

Low Life:Our biggest highlights so far have been the writing and release of our EP, and th live shows we’ve played. A couple of us had never put out a full release, so achieving that goal was an an amazing feeling. Playing live is our favorite thing to do, and we’ve played with a lot of amazing bands including Northlane, For The Fallen Dreams, Traitors, and VCTMS, just to name a few. Not to mention many of the talented local bands SLC has to offer. We’re very fortunate to be apart of such a thriving scene.

As for our creative sound, when we started Low Life, we wanted to write something completely different than what our previous bands sounded like. We wanted to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and try new things, which is something we continue to do today.

Sovereign:Wow that's pretty badass all around! Where do i start? Haha
What's the music scene like in utah and how do you stay busy during the pandemic with shows and releases?

Low Life:We really love the music scene in SLC. It’s really shaped who we are, and has always been welcoming. There’s a lot of different styles coming out of here, and a lot of talented musicians. We’ve been fortunate to play with so many amazing bands and have made a lot of friends over the years.

Working through Covid has had its challenges but we were able to take advantage of the extra time we had. We spent a lot of time sharpening our skills as musicians, and also spent time in the studio tracking new music. We’ve been taking our time getting back on stage, but now we’re ready to hit it full force. Despite its challenges, we’re coming out of this stronger than ever!

Sovereign:Thats the type of shit i love to hear! Is their any place your longing to perform at?

Low Life:
We’re longing to play anywhere and everywhere  possible, but the first couple places that come to mind are the Pacific Northwest (Oregon/Washington) Chicago, and New York.  We’ve heard a lot of really good things about those scenes, and several bands we love are from those areas. Also, playing anywhere internationally would be a dream come true as well!

Sovereign:That would be sick! So random question time. What are your guys top favorite artists of any genre collectively?

Low Life:Funny you should ask, because we just made a Spotify playlist full of all our favorite artists (new and old) as well as some of our favorite Utah bands! I’ll link it below. We all collectively love Slipknot, Linkin Park, and Mötley Crüe just to name a few.

Sovereign:Ayyyy thats whats up! So whats it like going to one of your shows?

Low Life:Our biggest goal is to bring as much energy as possible to our live performances, and I think we accomplish that. We play loud and aggressive but also try to make each other laugh on stage. For how serious our band is, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. All we want is for people to have a good time, and I think that translates to our live shows.

Sovereign:Is their any advice youd give to upcoming artists?

Low Life:Always stay busy and keep creating, and to not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Sovereign:Do you have any closing thoughts or comments?

Low Life:Just wanna say thank you for interviewing us, and a huge thank you to anyone that has supported us in anyway, whether it’s been coming to a show, buying our merch, streaming our music, or even just following us on social media. Every bit of support means the absolute world to us!
