Beastmode Interview
Sovereign Savant:So who is beastmode and how did you come up with the name?
Beastmode:Beast Mode is the Dirty South Avenger. He is the Punk Rock, Metal Head, Hip Hop artist from the old school. A 90's skater that grew into an underground hip hop
producer/promoter. Having artists not fulfill thier priorities, Chad Coleman aka Spookysk8 Chad aka Chad C aka C2 started the project which later (2008) became what's known today as the artist known as Beast Mode. The name stems from Chad doing these rock/rap songs and showing them to his closest hip hop peers. Thier reaction was, you going in Beast Mode. Hence the name.
S:So i heard something about Heroes and Villains can you drop some knowledge on me about that?
Beast:Heroes Vs Villains is a "Concept" show. A team of locals vs a team of out of towners. My team or Villains Team, consists of mainly St Louis artists. That's where it started and that's where I transformed from a "rapper" to an "Artist". We do Performance battles. My 10 minute set against yours, but its about the show, not necessarily about the songs themselves. We have an odd number of judges, usually 3, and they decide the fates of each performance. You can win an individual battle with your opponent. The team with the most wins tho is the overall winning team.
Now to be clear, all this really does is ensure that every act brings thier most to the stage that night and we have the dopest show possible because of the competitive edge. But we are all now networking and some of us are friends because of how we do our performances and how serious we take our careers. Not just anybody can be a part of Heroes Vs Villains. Only the ELITE. We can throw a HVV in Boise whenever you want and you can pick your team. I'll bring myself and 4 others and we will tear the roof off. It helps put GOOD artists in places they may not have a fanbase. Now all of a sudden they do after the Heroes and Villains Clash!!!
S:Thats a fantastic concept! Which cities have you held HVV in?
Beast:St Louis Mo, Colorado Springs Co, Olympia WA (Yelm WA), Omaha NE got cancelled and Topeka KS is in February. We try to do once a year.
S:Whats the turn out like to each event?
Beast:The turnouts are usually really good because its is in battle form so everyone knows all acts are gonna be giving 110
S:Bro thats dope! Word on the street you have some tour routes running through the states?
Beast:Yeah man. Theres alot of cities but we will just break down states at this point. Washington State, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Illionois, Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio. I think we are discussing adding your area to the line as well.
My team runs tours thru there regularly, but we also will book artists some of those spots.
I spent years doin free shows in places so that I could finally get paid to do shows across this line. It took alot of work.
S:What would be your biggest hurdle in the underground?
Beast:The biggest hurdle I seen in the underground is oversaturation. Theres too many artists that are not worth a damn but if they have money, they can buy on to shows instead of promoters hand picking talented artists who have talent and/ or fanbase. Shows have gotten really shitty because out of 10 acts in a night, 2 are dope and 8 suck. It makes it hard to have decent shows In this event. That's why I throw HVV. I know every act is dope and is giving 110%.
S:Is their a charge to be apart of HVV?
Beast:Noooo. We dont charge for any slots or any part of HVV. You have to be chosen. It is NOT a submission request. Your team captain has to choose you to be a part of it.
Well, I should clarify, you can submit to your team captain if you want. But we dont normally accept submissions. It's a hand chosen process. If you're dope and we know it, you will probably be asked in your area when it's time.
S:Where do you hope to be in 5 years?
Beast:In 5 years I'll be doing nothing but booking and radio. Imma do one last tour in 2022 and then I'm moving to radio.
Loud Ass Radio will be my focus. Loud Ass Radio will return jan 1st 2022 and will be a 24 hour station with different shows and hosts, and the best Hip Hop, Punk Rock and Hip Hop music in the Underground.
S:So what do hope to leave the industry with as your legacy?
Beast:Honestly after being in the game for over 10 years, I know the highs and lows of this life we live and this game we are a part of, so I wanna be known as someone who can make a difference for the artists after me. I'm already known as a beast on the live performance level. That was my main goal from the jump. I've reached that level and wanna help others be the best they can be while touring so that they stay motivated to continue living thru music and reaching dreams and goals.
S:Do you have any final thoughts or words?
